AESTICO is a Swiss start-up from Zurich that has taken on the challenge of tackling pen and paper in the construction industry. Measuring digitally, project managers in construction and craftsmanship save hours of office work. The founding of the start-up was triggered, as so often, by the personal experience of Rafael Mottl, one of the two founders: He saw stacks of quotes with cost estimates from floorers, tilers, painters, and so on, while helping his father-in-law who wanted to renovate his house. Each estimate was accompanied by handwritten notes to explain the proposed costs. Extremely messy, but in fact common practice in the construction industry: craftsmen measure with a digital device, write down measurements and services on paper, then type everything into an Excel spreadsheet, just to copy it into their office software - inefficient and highly error-prone. That was the moment when Rafael, together with his co-founder Giovanni Moscato, decided to take on this messy analog process and significantly accelerate it through digitization.
With the AESTICO app one digitally records measurement data and services on site: areas or lengths are transferred directly from the laser measurement device via Bluetooth interface into the quotation template created by the craftsman or project manager. With additional elements such as lump sums, quantities, or hours, the app generates the quote for the planned renovation work. With added images and notes, the work can be additionally well documented. The digitally captured data is transferred directly into the existing office software as a free itemized list of services via interface, or quotes and measurement reports are created directly as Word, PDF, or Excel files. The task of typing in data back in the office is eliminated, saving hours of tedious office work every week. Further advantages: The clean quotes and clear measruement reports convince private, public, and institutional clients with their professional and clear presentation. This drastically reduces the number of inquiries about project documentation. In addition, disruptions between measuring device, notepad, and computer, and the associated calculation errors, are avoided.
Meanwhile, AESTICO has established itself as the go-to address for digital surveying in Switzerland and is used in various educational courses for painters and plasterers.
